About us

A school built for the students the classroom kept losing.

Nova Support Center opened on 14 January 2014. Its aim has always been the same: to assist students who do not fit into mainstream schools, whether because of learning difficulties, emotional problems, or any of the other reasons a timetable stops working for someone.

We believe in each student's potential for excellence, and we are dedicated to empowering every student to achieve their full potential.

E. Engelbrecht, Principal

Nova is a digital school. All programmes are run over the internet and consist of video lessons that can be viewed as many times as needed, together with quizzes and tests. Exams are external, so what a student earns here carries weight elsewhere.

Staff assist students wherever it is necessary. If a concept is not understood, the student is helped one-on-one, and extra tests are set to strengthen it. The staff here have a passion for education and try to make a positive impact in the lives of the students who come through.

Teaching since

What we hold to

Four things we will not compromise on.

01

Every student has potential for excellence

We start from that assumption, not from a report card. No prior achievements are required to join us, and we do not need a record of grades already passed.

02

A missed explanation should never cost a year

All programmes run on video lessons that can be viewed as many times as needed. Nothing is delivered once and then gone.

03

Understanding is checked, not assumed

Quizzes and tests follow every lesson. If a concept is not understood, students are assisted one-on-one and given extra tests to strengthen it.

04

Distance should not decide anything

For students who cannot attend the learning centre, Zoom lessons are available wherever they are, at a time which suits them.

The story

How Nova took shape.

  1. 14 January 2014

    Nova Support Center opens

Founded to assist students who do not fit into mainstream schools, whether because of learning difficulties, emotional problems, or any of the other reasons a classroom stops working.

  2. A digital school

    Every programme runs online

All programmes consist of video lessons which can be viewed as many times as needed, together with quizzes and tests. Exams are external.

  3. Beyond the centre

Zoom lessons open the doors wider

Students anywhere can join live lessons. Many students who worked through a programme alone come to us purely to be prepared for the finals.

  4. Today

    Three programmes, one approach

My Online School, CambriLearn CAPS and the GED. Different curricula and destinations, the same insistence on support that is actually available when it is needed.

Not sure which programme fits?

Tell us the age, the last grade completed and what has been getting in the way. We will point you at the right route, and say so plainly if we are not the right fit.
